I have returned

Yes, it is time to clean up the old sewing studio and sew again! In the past year, I have made only one project; it's an LBD for my thirteen year old granddaughter. She's the one for whom I made the Faerie Dress while camping.

One day, I suggested that it might be fun to make an LBD that she could wear to the concert. My wife and I take her to see the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra about six times a year. She really likes to dress up for the evening, but an LBD for a thirteen year old? What was I thinking? I suggested that we put that project on the shelf until she is older. The problem is, she has a wait problem; she can't wait for what she wants. So I agreed to try it.

Just as I did with the Faerie Dress, I made this one without a pattern. The total construction time was about four hours. My granddaughter loves the dress. It is strapless, only because I ran out of time to put the straps on before the concert, but it fit so snugly, she had no problem keeping it in place. Using only a pin broach and some fabulous silver netting, I created a shawl to cover her shoulders. I also made the dress long enough to be appropriate for her age.

I'm in the process of explaining how I made the dress in an unfinished article, which I expect to complete and post this weekend. In the meantime, here is a preview. I've added one of the pictures to this post. As you can see, my granddaughter likes to ham it up.
